Using the context of Sunset on the Solstice, the hieroglyphs expand on ideas of community and hierarchy put forth in the piece. The container provides a gathering place for workshops, programs, dinner, and potentially even overnight events. The presence then of the encapsulating figures direct the viewers of OMI International Art Center to images of broken and tense public spaces. A mound and a pit delineate either end of the container, the lines drawn in white oil stick on black paint connect the two artificial edifices. The potential meaning for each icon and their overarching narrative help the community of OMI realize the idea of the work — a thought experiment exploring the potential of art and architecture to work in tandem to help communities envision an intercultural and sustainable future.
