CASA KIDS FURNITURE

Drawing inspiration from architecture, the dynamism of cartoons, and her own NYC upbringing, visual artist Katie Merz is perhaps best known for her large-scale murals.

Bklyn NY - April 2019 - Drawing inspiration from architecture, the dynamism of cartoons, and her own NYC upbringing, visual artist Katie Merz is perhaps best known for her large-scale murals. Merz is collaborating here with her longtime friend, the creative mind behind Casa Kids, Roberto Gil to create a series of urban-inspired engraved bunk beds; starting with their NY-themed bed. The cartoon-like figures Merz envisions come together to create their own language which tells digestible stories that children relate to. Her work features icons many can recognize from their day-to-day lives. In true New York style - Merz cartoons are sandwiched together to echo the graffiti New Yorkers are accustomed to. The Casa Kids NYC Bunk was a finalist in the NYCX design awards in May of 2019.
